So no big recaps of the non-essentials tonight other than to say that Jennifer Hudson was great and Miley Cyrus was more nasal than I've ever heard her.

Allison was up first and she was safe! Then Adam and no big surprise he is safe too. Anoop is the first contestant in the bottom 3.

Kris and Lil stand together, and Kris is safe while Lil is in the bottom 3. Matt and Danny stand, and Matt is in the bottom 3 while Danny is safe.

Anoop is the first to be released from bottom 3 hell and then Lil. Matt must sing for his life and boy does he. This is the first time I have heard a dramatically different performance on results night and I'm glad that everyone beat Simon down. No one goes home this week.

Simon reminds us that the way this plays out is that 2 people will go home next week, oh yeah, and the theme is Disco! Um, I'm not sure I want to watch this, could we just not and say we did...

Over all it was a pretty good night and I enjoyed most of the performances. Quentin makes an okay mentor and the 2 judges commentary was amusing to say the least.

Allison opened with I Don't Want To Miss A Thing (Aerosmith) from Armagedon. I usually love her but there was something about this that just didn't do it for me. I can't really put my finger on it either. Hopefully she will stay out of trouble because I really do like her and want her to stay in the competion.

Anoop was up next with Everything I Do (Bryan Adams) from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.  I have to say that Anoop surprises me at times, he has a pretty voice when he isn't trying to over do it and he is beginning to develop some real stage presence.

Adam performed Born To Be Wild (Steppenwolf) from Easy Rider.  As always he is note perfect and highly dramatic, I think he may be growing on me just a little though.  I still wouldn't buy his CD; but I imagine it would be fun to see him perform live.

Matt drew the middle slot and filled it with Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman (Bryan Adams) from Don Juan DeMarco.  There were some definite rough patches in the performance; but there is still something about Matt's performances that I find appealing.  I think he could be in trouble this week though.

Danny is up next with Endless Love (Lionel Richie & Diana Ross) from Endless Love.  It started off really rough to me and then he slid into his comfort zone.  It wasn't one of his best performances but it should pull at the heart strings of all his fans.

Kris performed Falling Slowly (Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova/The Frames) from Once.  I had never heard this song, and I've never seen the movie so I have nothing to reference it to; but I thought it was an interesting, moving, and slightly quirky choice for Kris and I'm looking forward to hearing the studio track.

Lil closed the show with The Rose (Bette Midler) from The Rose, and I thought it was one of her better performances.  She wasn't perfect; but I do feel she was true to herself and genuinely tried to give the judges what they want without compromising herself.  I just don't know if it was enough to save her at this point.

So from top to bottom: Adam, Kris, Anoop/Allison, Danny/Lil, Matt...

So it's results night again and we are treated to the usual group sing, although not as much preproduction this week. And a kind of cute Ford Commercial (just calling it the way I see it) to Britney's Circus.

Adam is safe, Kris is safe, Anoop is in the bottom 3.  Then cut to commercial, Flo Rida, and another commercial.  Danny is safe, Matt is safe, Scott is in the bottom 3.  That just leaves the girls and...  Allison is safe, while Lil finishes the bottom 3.

We have another commercial break and then Kelly Pickler is back just as cute and blonde as ever.  Gosh that girl knows how to make dumb blonde a really smart move.  The bottom 3 come to center stage and Lil is safe for another week.

After the requisite commercial break Anoop & Scott stand center stage and hear that after 34,000,000 votes only 30,000 seperated them.  And Anoop is safe and Scott is given the opportunity to sing for his life.  The judge's are split and drag the false drama on until Simon makes the decision and sends Scott home.  It's just yucky every time they go through the motions.  Paula babbles after Scott's video journey ends and another week of Idol is over.  TTFN!

Okay, I have an extra 6 in the house and nothing is going right. I actually listened to audio clips from tonight's show before I had a chance to watch it. So, I'll include my initial one word reaction to the track I heard first.

Danny Gokey opens with Stand By Me (Mickey Gilley), and my first thought is Good; and when I watched the show I thought, his performance kind of saves this.  It was too slow to get into things and he didn't really shine until the end.

Kris Allen was up next with All She Wants To Do Is Dance (Don Henley), and my first thought was Okay; but seeing it on the show did nothing for it.  I just never got into it.

Lil Rounds sang What's Love Got To Do With It (Tina Turner), and Whatever came to mind; and I was even less impressed seeing it.  She doesn't seem to have her own identity, she just comes out each week recreating someone else's performance.  Too bad, she has a pretty voice and I like her a lot when this started.

Anoop Desai did True Colors (Cyndi Lauper), and Okay was were we started.  Watching it I'm struck by the thougth that he needs to connect more with the audience, he is almost too aware of himself when he performs and he needs to let go.  It was a  little off in a few spots but definitely one of his better performances.

Scott MacIntyre sings The Search Is Over (Survivor), and it's another Okay.  Watching I'm glad he came out from behind the piano; but it may be too little too late.  It was a little all over the place and Simon was right the singing and the playing never quite gelled.

Allison Iraheta did I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Rait), and Great was the first thought to come to mind.  Watching her I'm struck by how much older than 16 she seems.  That may be her problem she doesn't appeal to the chronic power voters.  Too bad, because she is really easy to listen to, and I almost always enjoy her performances.

Matt Giraud sang Part Time Love (Stevie Wonder), and I thought Great.  Then watching it I'm struck by the fact that I miss him playing a little, but it's such a good performance for him I can't begrudge it.  I like him alot and I just want him to keep having good weeks.

Adam Lambert closes with Mad World (Tears For Fears), and third in a row with Great; but I'm still not buying it, his album that is.  Watching, I'm conviced that they sit him down and play with the lights in order to keep the drama down.  He is much more likeable tonight, obviously I'm getting old and losing my edge; but such is life.  A standing "O" from Simon is a first.

I hate it when they bicker early; but run out of time later.  Let's go for clear, concise comments, one judge at a time and no bickering.  That way every contestant can get the benefit of the judge's "wisdom".

Top 3:  Matt Giraud, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert

Bottom 3:  Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre

I am dying for David Cook to take the stage and for Megan to go home, other than that it is a normal day in Northwest Georgia.

So we get to see the Ford video early and then Ryan makes 3 groups.  Matt, Meagan, and Kris go to the far side of the stage.  Adam, Lil, and Allison stand center stage.  Scott, Danny, and Anoop stand closest to the safety couch.  And we're off to commercial with promise of  .

So I love the pre-recorded live performance, and his Mom in the audience.  And platinum for his "debut" album.  Imagine selling 1000 copies of a CD in a year and then over a million in 3 months, WOW.

Now, Kris is safe, and so is Matt; but Megan is in the bottom 3!!!  Lil is safe, Allison is in the bottom 3 (why isn't she getting votes??), and Adam is safe.  Danny is safe, Scott is safe, Anoop heads to the silver seats.  Now it's time to break and threats of Lady Ga Ga are tossed out.

Let's just not talk about that performance okay...  Allison is safe!!!!!  Anoop is safe!!!!!  And Megan is told unceremoniously by Simon that she will not be saved, so she sings her swan song, gives a shout out to the little people at AI, tells her son she is coming home, watches her clip and cries.  If I told you I was sad that she was gone I would be lying.

That's all for this week, next week's theme is songs from the year they were born.  I'm looking for a performance equal to Cookie with Billy Jean...  TTFN

This is one of those categories that is either great or abysmal for the contestants.  Some of them really know who they are and know what works for them and others are still struggling to find their place.

Anoop Desai opens with Caught Up (Usher), and I liked the up tempo as far as confidence and swagger; but I do think his vocals suffer some in this.  I do think the judges' indecisiveness about what they want from him will actually help him with the voters.

Megan Joy Corkrey follows with Turn Your Lights Down Low (Bob Marley/Lauren Hill), and despite a few pretty phrases at the end, the song sucked.  There is just something about her that I can't connect with, and the all over the place vocals are distracting.  Oh please, let her be gone tomorrow.

Danny Gokey sings What Hurts The Most (Rascal Flatts), and this is definitely his comfort zone.  I really enjoy him when he is singing something he believes in and his level of emotional connectedness in this song just kind of draws me in.  He needed a good performance to get him back on track and this was it.

Allison Iraheta performed Don't Speak (No Doubt), I like it, she's good.  I have the feeling something didn't go quite right with the guitar; but oh well, this is a singing competition.  I just wish the judges would lay off the outfit.  She's what 16-17 years old, so she dresses weird, lots of kids that age do, who cares.  She can sing and she is captivating when she is comfortable on stage.

Scott MacIntyre does Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel), and it's the first time all night I am really surprised.  Previous Billy Joel weeks have been a horrible experience for me because I love Billy and I hate to hear his songs torn apart.  BUT  Scott delivered a strong performance that was very enjoyable, I only wish he'd laid off the attempts at power and kept to the lyrical and sweet range he is so comfortable in.

Matt Giraud is up next with You Found Me (The Fray), and while it started a little rough, I enjoyed the overall performance.  I think he feeds off the crowds energy and a little more in the mix was good for him performance wise.  Not his best; but certainly not his worst either.

Lil Rounds sings I Surrender (Celine Dion), and I still have no idea who she will be when she records.  She has a beautiful, strong voice; but she really seems to struggle with song choice and stage presence.  I want her to be good, here's to hoping it happens next week.

Adam Lambert changes it up again with Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry), he is once again vocally perfect and ultimately a little strange.  They have toned down his look just enough to take some of the edge off of the theatrics.  While I still can't picture his CD looping endlessly in my car (that would be David Cook), I can easily say that if a song of his came on the radio I wouldn't change the station.

Kris Allen closes with Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers), and to me it is just brilliant.  I loved, loved, loved his vocals and he comes off better on the keyboards than he ever has on guitar.  He really needs that emotional connection to shine and I think he nailed it this week.

I'm so happy that David is on the results show tomorrow!!!!!!!

Wow you could have knocked me over with a feather when Matt landed in the bottom 2, I'm so glad he made it through.  I'm okay with Michael going, although I think Megan really deserved to be out.  One of these weeks, hopefully soon, the VFTW crowd will lose their pick and I for one will be happy when it happens.

I hate, hate, hate this sing for your life thing, like let's be real, the judges know long before they sing whether or not they are going to save someone, so why the unneccessary cruelty.  Oh, I remember, it's all in the name of rating.

It's time to unwind now and obviously I need to find something more relaxing than Idol.  TTFN

Okay, this is gonna be a bit of a quicky, I'm tired and they just weren't all that amazing tonight.   One would think with Motown as the category that the possibilities for finding a song that fits each contestant wouldn't be that hard but...

Matt Giraud opens with Let's Get It On (Marvin Gaye), and I actually enjoyed him more away from his piano.  He definitely would be easy to listen to long term, he has a real connection with the music and the audience.

Kris Allen is up next with How Sweet It Is (Marvin Gaye),  and after the clip I'm prepared to be blown away and I'm not.  He's not awful, it's just that I don't know that I'll remember it by tomorrow.

Scott MacIntyre performs You Can't Hurry Love (Diana Ross and the Supremes),... In truth it was better than I expected; but that doesn't mean it was good or that I liked it.

Megan Joy Corkrey sings For Once In My Life (Stevie Wonder), and I'm left wishing she hadn't.  I think the clip version showed more promise and potential than the trainwreck we were treated to on stage.   I hope the Worsters lose their fight to keep her in this.

Anoop Desai does Ohh Baby, Baby (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles), and I really enjoyed it.  I think he's interesting and I hope he sticks around long enough that we really get to see all of Anoop and his talents.

Michael Sarver sings Ain't Too Proud To Beg (Tempations),  and beg for votes is what he'll need to do. I strongly feel that Megan has a strong hold on worst of the night but Michael just lacks and real power in his voice.

Lil Rounds is up next with Heatwave (Martha and the Vandellas),  and I just feel like she rushed through the whole thing kind of screaming at us.  She has such a strong voice, there's no need to screech, better song choices must be in her future.

Adam Lambert surprises with Tracks Of My Tears (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles), and while the toned down Adam is just as character as dressed crazy Adam, the vocals are amazing.  He is just note perfect every week and when he delivers like he did tonight he is almost untouchable.  I still can't picture looping his CD but...

Danny Gokey performs Get Ready (Temptations), and I'm kind of left with the feeling that he's holding back, staying out of the limelight, and not delivering quite to his full potential for fear of running out of ways to impress.  Considering the competition, this could seriously be a good move.  Tonight's performance was fun, energetic, crowd pleasing, and easy enough to listen to without causing unneccessary pimping by the judges.

Allison Iraheta closes with Papa Was A Rolling Stone (Temptations), she was good, but somehow it just didn't do anything for me.  I guess I'm left feeling like I've heard better version from the Idol stage in earlier seasons.  I still love her and hope that she is in this for quite some time.

So results night is supposed to be a shocker, but after looking at polls and Dial Idol I can honestly say there is nothing too surprising.

The group number is not as good as last week but better than most of the group songs last year. The Ford video is cute, my daughter would love to wash a car with water ballons. Glad she was in bed before this aired.

Danny is safe, Lil is safe, Anoop is safe! Allison is in the bottom 3, oops don't sit down yet Michael, so are you!

Brad Paisely performs. Scott is safe, Megan is safe, Matt is safe, and Kris is safe! Alexis is in the bottom 3 and Adam is safe!

Allison, Michael, Alexis -- who gets to sit down first?!? Yeah, Allison is safe, we'll get to listen to her next week.

Carrie really has done well for herself. Quite the career she has going. Carrie and Randy Travis perform together. It's sweet.

The judges may save one???? Michael is safe, and a good thing for him because the judges had no intention of saving him. Poor Alexis is forced to sing the same song they didn't like last night in an attempt to stay on at least one more week. It doesn't work, she was so nervous/desperate, and rightfully so.

Heads up President Obama will be giving a televised press conference next Tuesday, so Idol will be shown on Wednesday and Thursday. Man is that going to screw with the DVR. TTFN...

Okay, Grand Ole Opry week is here and it had it's highs and lows.

Michael Sarver opens with Ain't Going Down Till the Sun Comes Up (Garth Brooks), it is too fast paced for him, he doesn't have the vocal stamina for this.  It isn't awful it's just not great.

Allison Iraheta sings Blame It On Your Heart (Patty Loveless), and while this isn't one of my favorite songs, she has a good voice and she is a lot more comfortable on stage than many older performers.

Kris Allen does To Make You Feel My Love (Bob Dylan/Garth Brooks), and I like it, he has a pleasant voice but it's a pretty performance, ballads really do suit him.  It does seem a bit breathy in places; but overall it's good.

Lil Rounds performs Independence Day (Martina McBride), and it got slowed down way to much in the verses, it took too long to get moving and that's ashame.  Lil hits the notes and has the stage presence, I think that this was just way too far outside of her comfort zone.

Adam Lambert massacres Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash)!  He hits the notes, nails the lyrics, has all the drama you could ever want, and I hated it.  I swore after learning that I like his voice when I'm not watching the drama that I would just close my eyes and listen, but I had to open them in shock and horror.  I know he said you either love it or hate it ~ I'm solidly in the hate it camp this week.

Scott MacIntyre performs Wild Angels (Martina McBride), at the piano and it was pleasant.  He doesn't wow me; but please do not take away his piano, he is a thousand time better with it.

Alexis Grace sings Jolene (Dolly Parton), I think this may be my favorite version of this from the show.  It's a softer side of Alexis, and I think that's nice.  I don't know why the judges have gotten so stuck on dirtying her up, she has a pretty enough voice that she doesn't always need the grit and naughty.

Danny Gokey sings Jesus Take the Wheel (Carrie Underwood), and it is super rough through the verse, almost like he's afraid to put too much into the singing in case he forgets the lyrics.  When he gets to the chorus he really soars and it is obvious he is much more comfortable with this portion of the song.

Anoop Desai is all stripped down with You Were Always On My Mind (Willie Nelson), and it was good.  I really get a feel for why he is in the competition.  Good for Anoop, I think he just saved himself.

Megan Joy Corkrey was up next with Walking After Midnight (Patsy Cline), it was quite quirky but not as energetic as past performances.  At the end we find out that she was in the hospital earlier today and has type b influenza.  Possibly that will be what it takes to drum up the fanbase and keep her in this.

Matt Giraud closes with So Small (Carrie Underwood), it was a heartfelt and honest performance.  He has a few vocal catches but overall it is super performance and I don't see him going home anytime soon based on that.

Top 3:  Matt, Anoop, Danny

Bottom 3:   Scott,  Michael, Adam
